Sanggar Mandra is a legendary classical Balinese painting studio located in Banjar Sangging, Kamasan, Klungkung, Bali. The studio was founded by the legendary maestro of Kamasan-style wayang painting, I Nyoman Mandra (1946–2018), to preserve this ancient Majapahit-derived art form and teach it to the village’s younger generations for free. Unlike modern Balinese art, Kamasan painting is strictly classical, recounting epic narratives from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Balinese folk tales, hand-painted on bark cloth or canvas using natural mineral pigments.
This listing is published under our physical-visit model. Operating hours are set to ‘closed every day’ pending our team’s upcoming in-person visit to Banjar Sangging to verify the studio’s current schedules, document on-site paintings, and provide the Mandra family with a claiming link to manage the listing. Real, authentic classical painting photographs sourced from licensed collections are shown here as the primary gallery; they will be updated with our own on-site visit photographs soon. If you are a visitor, please contact the studio before travelling as it is a working family compound.
