Pura Beji is an ancient, highly revered Subak temple located in the village of Sangsit, Sawan, Buleleng Regency, North Bali. Dedicated to the goddess Dewi Sri, who protects rice agriculture and crop fertility, the temple is internationally celebrated for its magnificent, hyper-complex northern Balinese architectural style. Unlike the simpler stone temples of southern Bali, Pura Beji’s massive gates, walls, and shrines are completely covered in dense, spectacular floral, vine, and leaf reliefs carved directly into the local pinkish-grey soft volcanic sandstone (paras). The carvings also depict legendary guardian spirits, demonic Boma faces, and scenes from epic Hindu mythology, presenting a masterpiece of classical Balinese craftsmanship.

This listing is published under our physical-visit model. Operating hours are set to ‘closed every day’ pending our team’s upcoming on-site visit to Sangsit to confirm exact coordinates, document the historic sandstone structures, and provide the temple curators with a claiming link. Illustrative photos are shown here as temporary fallbacks and will be replaced with our own on-site photographs soon.
